Group Family Constellation Therapy

What is a Group Family Constellation Therapy?

The Group Family Constellation is a collective version of the therapeutic method developed by Bert Hellinger. It aims to explore family history within a circle of participants, allowing each person to experience the process either as:

  • seeker (the person bringing their issue);
  • representative (embodying a family member of the seeker);
  • or observer, to provide supportive presence to other participants and to what is unfolding for each of them.

In this context, psychological difficulties, repetitive patterns, and blockages are no longer seen as isolated problems, but as possible echoes of family history that can be brought to light and resolved through the group dynamic.

Who is Group Family Constellation Therapy for ?

This format is suitable for anyone wishing to:

  • Explore their own family history through the lens of a compassionate group.
  • Observe and understand family dynamics by stepping into the shoes of others.
  • Benefit from the power of the group to foster both collective and individual awareness.

 It is particularly adapted for those seeking a space for exchange, mutual support, and resonance with the journeys of others.

Upon request, it is also possible to organize a Group Family Constellation exclusively with members of the same family or trusted close friends.

What are its applications in group ?

The collective format allows addressing a wide variety of issues, whether emotional, physical, or relational. Thanks to the presence of representatives and the resonance of the group, it becomes possible to:

  • Unblock complex situations by observing the dynamics at work in others.
  • Free oneself from emotions or symptoms that do not belong to us by integrating them into a broader perspective.
  • Strengthen awareness and reconciliation with one’s family history, supported by the group’s energy.

How does a Group Family Constellation take place ?

The therapist presents the method and the framework of the constellation, after which the seeker presents their issue in the presence of the group.

An intention of release is then set to guide the constellation work and the energies of the representatives.

The seeker then chooses a person to represent them and to represent other family members or other key elements. The therapist can thus observe the emerging dynamics and emotions, guide the group toward a reorganization of the situation aimed at untying the knots of the past and restoring balance within the lineage.

This format favors an experience that is both personal and collective, where everyone can learn by observing others and being supported by the entire group.

How many participants ?

A Family Constellation is generally conducted in a group of 6 to 10 people, composed of one seeker and representatives. If the group size allows, the Constellation can also accommodate a few observers.

This allows the work to proceed while maintaining an intimate and compassionate workplace.

Are there any contraindications ?

Although Group Family Constellations do not present particular dangers, the experience can be emotionally intense, especially when mobilizing memories or truths from the past.

It is therefore not recommended for individuals with significant emotional or psychic instability, or in cases of unmanaged psychiatric conditions.

How many group sessions are needed to solve a problem ?

The Group Family Constellation is generally considered a complementary tool to other forms of therapy or personal work. It does not claim to resolve all issues on its own, but it offers a powerful space for awareness and release.

It is recommended not to use it too frequently or exclusively, in order to allow for a deep integration of the insights gained.

How long does a Group Family Constellation last ?

A Group Family Constellation generally lasts 3 hours, with several breaks as needed.
